How to use 7-Zip to encrypt files and folders on Windowse

No more introduction to 7-Zip, it is one of the best compression and decompression software on Windows, supporting many formats such as ZIP, 7Z, ISO, RAR, VDI, VHD, WTM ...

Users often choose 7-Zip to decompress compressed files after downloading, but perhaps many people do not know that this software can encrypt files and folders using the AES-256 encryption algorithm. Supports AES-256 encryption with 7z and ZIP formats, the software allows creating passwords to protect data.

With this tutorial, you can use 7-Zip to encrypt files and folders on Windows and earlier versions of OS easily.

Step 1: Download and install 7-Zip at here:

Step 2:

Go to where the file or folder needs to be encrypted, right-click and select 7-Zip> Add to archive.

Step 3:

In the dialog box Add to archive, enter a name and click the 3-dot button to choose a destination for the file you want to encrypt.

Step 4:

Select either Archive Format as ZIP or 7z. In the Encryption box, choose the encryption method (Encryption Method) is AES-256 instead of the default ZipCrypto.

Step 5:

Enter the password to protect the file and re-enter it to confirm. This is the password used to unlock the file. Users are encouraged to use at least 1 number, 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and special character.

Step 6: Click OK to complete.

Depending on the number of files, folders, data size, and computer configuration, the time it takes to complete the job will vary.
